Dr. Samson Imoleayo Shonowo is a medical professional who has created a niche for
himself as someone who is not just committed to saving lives, but dedicated to making sure that his
community can access affordable, yet standard health care.
Born in Idumota, Lagos, he attended Sunbeam Nursery and Primary
School, Shasha, Akowonjo and St. Joseph Secondary School before proceeding to the University Of
Ibadan to study medicine and surgery.
He graduated in 2007 with a Bachelor of Medicine, Bachelor of Surgery (MBBS) and proceeded to
The Nigerian Navy Reference Hospital, before heading over to The Lagos State Command of The
Department of State Services.
He was a medical officer at The Lagoon Hospital before his love for serving his community compelled
him to join the Lagos state civil service as a medical officer at Orile Agege General Hospital where he
worked at the accident and emergency unit, surgery, obstetrics and gynaecology, and general
In 2014, he founded Agege Diagnostics center, and in March 2015, he founded Shonowo Hospital.
He assumed duty as Medical Director of the hospital in 2016.
Dr Show, as he is fondly called, is a philanthropist, and his passion for community health care drove
him to start the SHONOWO FREE HERNIA SURGERY program.
Between November 2016 and November 2017, Under the FREE HERNIA SURGERY PROGRAM, about
350 hernia surgeries were carried out for free within the Alimosho Local Government, while the free
surgery program also covered 10 fibroid removal surgeries and over 150 patients with lumps were
also freely treated.
Doctor Shonowo is also a health education advocate.
